Attending a 2 Days’ workshop on ‘Cultivating Proposal Writing Skills’ was an eye-opening experience, especially for me who is new to the world of writing project proposals in the field of social work.
It was my first time attending proposal writing session and it was a great opportunity and experience stepping into new experience and getting new skills. Before attending proposal writing skills session, I thought proposal writing was just a minor report but after attending session, I get to know that it is a great analytical task to be completed. Now, I see it as a strategic art form. The first session started with a deep understanding the audience, which completely changed my perspective. I learned that knowing whom you are writing for is just as important subject to be noted; it is about delivering your message to convince with theirs needs and interests to whom you are writing. Likewise, I also learned about simple starting phase of writing proposal i.e. zero drafting, concept note, solicited and unsolicited proposal writing etc. I also learned that proposal writing is based on three things or terms; TOR, LOI and RFP (Terms of Reference, Letter of Interest/ Intend, Request for Proposal respectively).
The Second day Session was most important and one of the amazing day where I learned the importance of structure. Before, I thought the script was the most important part, but the session emphasized the value of a clear, logical framework. It felt like learning a new experience that I have ever experience. Similarly, skills learnt during engaging group activities helped in drafting ideas for proposal, which was super helpful in seeing what, makes a proposal actually work. I learned how to make a solid budget, plan out a realistic timeline where the best part was taking feedbacks on own draft from our seniors and Mr. Rajesh Pathak (Guest speakers). This is where I got chance to improve my errors.
Overall, proposal-writing session was totally worth it, as it is all about learning, practicing and working together. Therefore, the skills I gain in a proposal writing session directly place with the core needed for successful and impactful career in social work from project development to advocacy and research. At last, I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to Rajesh Pathak Sir, BSW Department and Samriddhi College for organizing and certifying all of us with such an insightful and knowledgeable workshop. It has truly driven us as a career guidance course. The detailed discussion offered during the session have broadened our understanding of the opportunities within social work field and our professional journey.
