IT Essentials
The IT Essentials course is a foundational learning program aimed at IT industry joiners, career switchers, and individuals wishing to acquire a solid overview of computer systems and support.
This course is the portal introductory step to the domain of information technology, giving you the right knowledge and practical skills necessary for beginning your career in entry-level technical support. The general aim is to impart to you a full understanding of current computing, ranging from the hardware elements within a computer to network connectivity, operating systems, and security.
You’ll have hands-on practice in hardware assembly and disassembly, operating system installation and setup, such as Windows, and fixing common issues on various devices, such as laptops, printers, and mobile phones. You will build the confidence required to serve end-users, diagnose technical problems, and support mission-critical IT infrastructure, thereby opening the door to higher-level certifications and a successful career in help desk or technical support.
The course material is carefully designed to reflect the actual professional responsibilities of an IT practitioner. The learning process starts with introductory concepts of hardware, where you will be studying about personal computer components, safety standards, and the hands-on aspects of PC building and dismantling.
The curriculum progresses to cover networking concepts, where you study network devices, protocols, cables, and hands-on troubleshooting procedures. An acceptable percentage is spent on various technology support, including the special considerations and repair methods for laptops, mobile phones, and printers. The course then transitions into software, with extensive modules on installing, configuring, and maintaining Windows operating systems and a discussion on Linux, macOS, and mobile operating systems. Most significantly, the curriculum includes key security principles threat identification, security policy, and hardening of workstations and concludes with the soft skills and performance practices necessary for any IT professional, including communication, ethics, and legalities. Through continuous labs, checkpoint exams, and ultimate practice exams aligned to the CompTIA A+ certification (220-1101 & 220-1102), you will confirm your skills along the way, ensuring that you’re not just theoretically prepared but also practically prepared to get the job done in your initial IT support role.
