Red Hat System Administration I (RH124)
Red Hat System Administration I (RH124) provides an introductory foundation for information technology professionals seeking to build reputable, enterprise-level skills in the administration of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), a component of modern-day data centers and cloud infrastructures. This course goes beyond generic Linux concepts through the provision of specialty knowledge required for proper use and support of RHEL systems in a professional setting. Key intentions are those of providing participants with valuable skills in command-line operations, system settings, and basic maintenance tasks. Students gain hands-on, real-world knowledge of accessing the command line, file manipulation, controlling access of users, and establishing local security configurations. Care has been taken in structuring the curriculum with best practices from the initial stage of learning such that students gain an understanding of not just the performance of tasks but also why preferred methods exist within the Red Hat landscape. Completing this program successfully results in participants developing the confidence required to perform crucial system administration tasks, providing a platform for furthering the Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) credential and gaining a solid base from which critical Red Hat infrastructures can be managed.
The course material represents a complete and systematic exploration of a system administrator’s day-to-day tasks. It opens with foundational skills: accessing the command line interface, traversing the Linux filesystem hierarchy, and utilizing fundamental tools for creating and viewing and editing text files. Then the curriculum explores core system management, digging deeply into managing local Linux users and groups, exercising file permission control with finesse, and monitoring and controlling Linux processes. A lot of time and attention are spent on operational tasks, such as configuring and securing SSH and remote system administration, controlling system and daemon activities, and managing network interfaces and hostnames. You become familiar with the Red Hat package management system and learn how to install and update software packages with YUM/DNF and register systems with the Red Hat Customer Portal. The course concludes with advanced subjects such as mounting and unmounting filesystems, file location and utilization of Red Hat Insights for proactive issue identification. With ongoing hands-on labs and a final course-wide review, you continually practice these skills in a real-world lab setting and are able to integrate and perform these important tasks smoothly, setting you up immediately as a results-producing professional in an enterprise environment.
