Nurturing Growth:  My internship Journey at Weaving Dreams Nepal

22 May, 2025

Role: Daycare Trainee and Administrative Assistant

My internship at  ‘Weaving Dreams’, Nepal, beginning on 23rd March 2025 marked a turning point in my academic journey as a Bachelor of Social Work and Psychology student. Taking on the role of both Daycare Trainee and Administrative Assistant, I found myself immersed in a unique environment where compassion meets structure, and service aligns with purpose. Weaving Dreams is a registered nonprofit organization in Nepal, operating under the Office of the Company and affiliated with social welfare Council established in 2017, it is based in Swayambhu 15, Kathmandu. It serve domestic migrant families, women, and children working in carpet factories in Kathmandu and Lalitpur. The Weaving Dreams Child sponsorship program provides children from weaving communities with access to quality education, learning materials, and uniforms. It also encourages parental involvement and offers mentorship, aiming to create a supportive environment for the child’s growth and development.

The experience at Weaving Dreams allowed me to explore multiple dimensions of community-based care especially focusing on wellbeing of children from vulnerable backgrounds while also engaging with the behind scenes work that keeps an organization running.

In the daycare, my daily responsibilities included planning and managing child friendly activities, supervising health and hygiene, and ensuring emotional safety. I quickly learned that child development is not just about structured play or learning, but also about being emotionally available and responsive to their needs. Simultaneously, I supported the administrative portion slightly such as; filling documents, data entry, managing of records. This dual role taught me how to balance nurturing with efficiency and how essential both aspects are for imp artful community work. However, the journey was not without challenges. One of the biggest difficulties I faced was the management i.e. juggling energetic children while keeping up with administrative tasks required strong prioritization. Working with limited resources also pushed me to become more innovative and adaptable. Emotionally, it was challenging to witness some struggles the children faced in their home environments, but this only deepened my sense of responsibility.

Despite these obstacles, the learning I gained was profound and transformative. I developed a deeper understanding of emotional intelligence especially in working with children. I Learned the power of leadership through service where guiding others means showing empathy, staying calm under pressure and supporting rather than controlling.I learned to lead with heart, not just instructions. One of the most valuable personal lessons I learned was patience with children with processes, and with myself. Every day demanded presence, compassion, and persistence. My organizational and administrative skills also improved significantly, particularly in managing records and maintaining consistency. These learnings are not just professional; they have shaped my character and deepened my passion for the field of social work.

Looking back, this internship not only strengthened my academic foundation but also helped me grow as an individual. It shaped my ability to lead with empathy, work within a team, and respond to real world social issues with clarity and commitment. I now feel more prepared to walk forward in my career with practical experience, emotional resilience and a deeper belief in community development.

In conclusion, my time at Weaving Dreams Nepal has been more than just an academic requirement it has been a long journey of self-discovery, skill building and a meaningful contribution. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve, learn, and grow in an organization that truly lives up to its name –helping others weave their dreams into reality. A heartfelt thank-you to Tshering Lama Mam, Executive director of Weaving Dreams Nepal, and BSW Department of Social Work for their immense support, mentorship, and guidance throughout my internship. It has inspired and motivated me deeply and left a lasting impact on my personal and professional growth.
